Lani Sommer-Padilla, LCSW

Lani Sommer-Padilla, MSW, LCSW  is a New Jersey state licensed psychotherapist (#44SC05466800), Family Therapist & Couples Counselor specializing in individual, couples and family psychotherapy with over 10 years of clinical experience. She is a graduate of New York University School of Social Work, and has completed two years of post-graduate training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, training in motivational interviewing (Life Coaching), as well as an externship leading to certification in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) www.iceeft.com . Among her areas of expertise is the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, school refusal, parenting adolescents, and marital and family relationship issues.

Working collaboratively with clients to build on their strengths, her treatment approach is to provide the tools, support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. Her treatment approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) within a coaching and family systems orientation. Lani also offers a six-session weekly support group for parents and their infant or toddler, the Bright Beginnings Parent-Child Group. Through a combination of lecture, discussion, videotape, role play and experiential exercises, parents focus on how they can support their children’s social, emotional and cognitive development. Attention is paid to the various aspects of early childhood development, such as initial parent child bonding, exploration of the mechanics of the world around them, learning how to relate to others, and successfully building a sense of self, self-worth, industry and self-esteem. The work we do will even include a look at the many detailed daily interactions that all add up to creating a child who experiences success.
